With everything that going on around you, staying clutter-free can be a challenge. It doesn’t matter how often you clean your home or office, you may occasionally have trouble saying goodbye to certain unnecessary items. Believe it or not, many people experience nostalgia when they get ready to get rid of certain items. This can prevent them from keeping their home or workspace as organized and clean as possible. If you can identify with this situation and find yourself going through the same thing, here are ways you can cope.
Identify the Emotion
Your emotions can determine how long you keep something whether you actually need it or not. Maybe you have a pair of jeans that you haven’t been able to fit since high school that you’re holding on to. Or you probably still have some old books that you haven’t touched in years. No matter what sentimental value your possessions have, if they don’t serve an immediate purpose, they should be put up out of the way or gotten rid of.
Create a Space
If you are not ready to get rid of your treasured items, then why not create a space to keep them out of the way. Depending on what the items are, you could dedicate a shelf, box, or a storage container to use to keep everything safe and easily accessible.
Humans are capable of much emotions. They also value memories and experiences. When you hold onto physical items because they remind you of people, places, events, and other feelings, you need to make sure that you space is able to accommodate them. You don’t have to stop keeping items that have sentimental value, but you should start thinking about becoming a bit more selective in what you keep.
